PYROSTRIA LALJII NEW
SPECIES FOUND IN ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR
News: PYROSTRIA LALJII is the first record of the genus pyrostria in India, discovered by team of researcher of India and Philippines.
ABOUT
·
The tree is distinguish by a long stem with a whitish coating on the trunk and oblong obovate leaves with a cuneate base.
· It has umbellate inflorescence with eight to twelve flowers.
· First reported in Wandoor forest in south Andaman.
· It is listed “Critically Endangered “under IUCN Red List.
· It was named after Lal ji Singh, joint Directorate and head of office, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, Botanical Survey of India.
· Plant belonging to genus pyrostria are usually found in Madagascar.
· The other places where it could be located are the Tirur forest near Jarawa reserves forest and Chidia Tapu forest.
