New Delhi: The new variant of the corona virus 'Omicron' has raised concerns. Keeping this in mind, the government has decided to review the decision to resume international flights. Even if flights start, there has also been a renewed discussion on the SOP related to corona screening and monitoring of passengers coming from abroad, especially those coming from countries kept in the 'risk' category. 



International flights are running closed for 20 months



Decisions in this regard were taken in a meeting chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla. This meeting took place a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's high-level review on the new worrying form of corona virus 'Omicron'. After a long gap of more than twenty months, the government had announced on 26 November that international flights would be resumed from 15 December.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that in the meeting chaired by the Home Secretary, the global situation was reviewed in view of 'Omicron' and the measures for prevention and strengthening them were discussed. The spokesman said that the government will review the decision to resume commercial international flight service based on today's global situation. The government has also decided that genomic surveillance of virus variants will be further strengthened and health officials posted at airports and seaports will be sensitized for strict monitoring of testing protocols.

The spokesperson said, he said that the emerging situation of the epidemic within the country would be closely monitored. The meeting was attended by NITI Aayog member (Health) VK Paul, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister Vijay Raghavan, senior officials of health-civil aviation and other ministries, including experts.
